Open Hours Conversations

Notes From Chat With Donald:

Change out the rider for the various different scenarios - Male and female, different sizes, different ages etc
Try making the rider smaller to emphasise that they’re vulnerable + make the horse the hero
Strapline? “Be safe around horses”
Think about tone of voice for the text - Witty, educational?
Test colours - Try B&W, B&W backgrounds with coloured horse and comic elements showing the action, or all coloured but with more muted backgrounds so that the horse stands out from better
It might be helpful to produce a turn around line up of drawings so you can see the relationship between horse and rider from every angle - you will be able to refer back to this to help keep your drawings consistent

Notes From Chat With Caroline:

Show different scenarios of bad driver behaviour
Have a different rider and horse combo for each scenario e.g. big horse + small grandma, small horse in cart, pony + child, Maori youth riding bareback
Play around with various horse colours - Have fun
Don’t target young semi-rural motorists! - Consider focusing on the tourist and urban dwelling motorists market = increasing number of people on the roads, people used to different driving experiences, rural NZ has narrower roads with more obstacles etc
Where is the project going? Think ahead - Population rise, tourism boom, more immigration etc FORWARD THINKING
Social Media = Reach and impact, shareability of defensive info and training (the fundamentals of how to drive around horses)
Focus on producing: Social Media Campaign, Educational Materials, Stickers (possibly)
DON’T SPREAD YOURSELF TOO THIN
Focus on a few aspects and do them really well and if you want to include something you can say: in future you would expand into…
The text should be clear and straightforward if you're going to be speaking to people who may have little English skills in terms of understanding wit etc
Play around with the typography
Try doing lifework on illustrations a bit thicker so they are more substantial and stand out from the page better
