Proposal Writing Lecture & Workshop

Lecture Notes:

  • Explain how the literature and precedent material has informed your design enquiry and how your own processes have developed the project from initial idea to this point
  • Without something to talk about and show you don’t have a proposal - all you have is a background to a topic
  • (Bring the name into the methodology!)
  • Make sure everything you mention in your introduction is actually used/expanded on throughout the proposal
  • End with a clear plan for achieving aims and how your methods will get you there
  • Your methodology accounts for the method you are using
  • Own everything that you have done! e.g. I conducted a survey
  • Make every sentence count - no waffle!
  • Avoid: might, could, perhaps
  • Avoid repetition of ideas
  • Use lots of images! SHOW us everything you have done and what you are referring to

In the writing workshop, Farren Gunn read over my draft proposal and very helpfully let me know where she felt I should condense the writing as it dragged on about one point for too long
