Week 9 Reflection

Over the last few weeks I have been thinking about the medium I want to use to present my ideas - what is the best way of engaging my intended audience? At the Whakatinana moment I talked to my peers about how I had started doubting whether a book was the best way to convey my topic, and they agreed that perhaps I should try and think of a more attention grabbing medium. Since then I have been researching how to make a campaign go viral and looking at precedents of great campaigns. After looking into the campaign 'Dumb Ways To Die' I researched how animations can educate and raise awareness. This started me down the track of illustrative communications and I have since also been looking at comic/cartoon precedents. As part of my research into viral campaigns I also looked into social media theories and transmedia theories. For super crit I am going to present precedents from animation, comic illustration, and transmedia campaigns along side my initial illustrative exploration of my subject matter. It will be interesting to see what the feedback is on my new direction and if my peers (and also my advisor) think that the new strategy will engage my audience.

In other news, it has been three days since I made my survey live and shared it on various horse pages on Facebook. Since then it has had 841 respondents and has been shared by many individuals, horse related businesses, horse/pony clubs etc. I even messaged the national horse magazine and asked if they would share the survey on their page and they were happy to. I am very excited by the fantastic response!
